Moving forward, using all our breath

The tidal wave is swelling, and we're riding it. So let's recap, shall we?

Yesterday, the Daily Cardinal carried the first announcement that revolution was in the air.

Later that same day, with a small message in one of the student papers, turnout to our first meeting exceeded expectations. Liberals and conservatives, ASM members and regular students - everyone - could tell change here. Some bloggers even showed up. (And when you've finished reading all that, kick back and just listen for a few minutes.)

Today, our manifesto is out:

ASM has forfeited its right to be taken seriously. Atlas has shrugged.

For some UW-Madison students, Associated Students of Madison’s handling of this week’s election-crippling computer glitch was the last straw. Talk of revolution is in the air, and this editorial board supports such warranted, healthy discussion.

We are encouraged to find students observing the downfalls of ASM and acting to make real change on campus. We look forward to hearing from the alternative government movement and implore those organizing the effort to engage all students, something ASM has never done.

And today, we'd like to announce that we met with Interim Dean of Students Lori Berquam. In a fantastic hour-long discussion, Dean Berquam was more than gracious, and was happy to "recognize [Student Government's] efforts." In fact, she made clear that she was "available to assist and consult" with Student Government.

Toes on the nose, yo.

Welcome to your Student Government

Welcome to the official blog of the Student Government. ASM didn't even have a blog when they existed - looks like we beat 'em again.

In the coming days, we'll be keeping you up to date on the fast-moving revolution. These are exciting times, and all things are possible. If you've been reading what we've gotten to the media so far, you'll notice that we often say "we look forward to serving you." Well, we also look forward to meeting each and every one of you. Because after all, this is yours even more than it is ours.
